The 3 things you NEED to know about petrol in diesel!

AdBlue In your Fuel

All over Lincolnshire we have found a lot more examples of AdBlue contamination whereby a person has poured AdBlue into their diesel tank. This is partly a result of motorists not being totally sure how to work with it (take note: it's in fact not a fuel additive), and in part due to the fact that the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are typically directly next to each other on the automobile.

Well, exactly what is the problem with having AdBlue in the diesel vehicle?

Seeing that the product is primarily ionised water, it is as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water will not mix in the least and trying to run a diesel car on water does not work. Additionally, the urea is very corrosive to the fuel system lines and seals and is at risk of crystalising, blocking injectors and fuel filters. Assuming you have put AdBlue into the fuel tank get it drained immediately. And absolutely do not start the vehicle - not even to move it into a parking area. In the instance that you have started the vehicle you may in all likelihood need to have the whole fuel system purged and filters replaced.

Contact us if it turns out you are suffering with AdBlue contamination. We can help you. We are Contaminated Fuel Specialists and can easily correct every type of AdBlue fluid contamination.

Boat Fuel Drains

We've completed many fuel drains at docks and boatyards in the uk.

Wrong Fuel Doctor Doddington - Fuel Rescue Doddington

It truly was what is called the night shift. It was roughly 2:30am and nobody was stirring. It had become fairly quiet so far, and me and Ray were loafing looking through a couple of old magazines. It was an uncommon quiet moment in Lincolnshire. Actually it was in fact so relaxing that when my mobile eventually rang it made me start! The person on the phone told me: "I just concluded my night shift and foolishly filled the wrong fuel in the new-shape Audi RS 4 by mistake". We asked him to let us know just where the vehicle was and we left, ending up in Doddington no more than half an hour later. The incorrect fuel was cleaned from the motor and he thanked us profusely for coming out so quickly. While we were returning home we noticed two ladies on the edge of the street who looked like they suffered a flat. Obviously we got out to change it, to their elation.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VA receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
